Information we collect
We keep what we collect deliberately small. Depending on how far you go with JyotishSakshi, this can include:
- Account details — your email address, an optional display name, and (if you choose email sign-in) a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email and name from Google.
- Birth details — your date of birth, time of birth (or a note that it is unknown), and birth place. These are the inputs your Jyotish chart is calculated from.
- Location — the birth place you enter, and optionally a home or current location you choose. You may also pick a city to view the public Panchāṅga.
- Calculated chart and readings — the astronomical chart and the Jyotish readings we generate for you from your birth details.
- Basic usage signals — anonymous, aggregated analytics about how the site is used (see Analytics below).
Why we need your birth details
JyotishSakshi uses your birth details to calculate and preserve your personal Jyotish chart and readings. Your date, time and place of birth are the exact inputs a Vedic chart is built from — without them, we can only show general almanac information, not anything personal to you.
Where your birth time is uncertain, we deliberately avoid presenting false precision in the parts of a reading that depend heavily on an exact time.
What we generate for you
From your birth details we compute an astronomical chart and produce readings: your Kundali (birth chart), your Jātaka (life-area interpretation), your current Daśā (planetary period), and a daily reading. These are stored so they stay consistent for you and so you don't have to recalculate them each visit.
Account and sign-in information
You can create an account with an email and password, or by signing in with Google. Passwords are never stored in plain text — they are stored as a one-way hash. Sign-in uses secure, http-only cookies, and we apply basic protections such as temporary lockout after repeated failed sign-in attempts.
How we handle location
There are three different kinds of location, and we treat them differently:
- Panchāṅga city — the city you pick to view the public almanac is stored only in your own browser, so the page remembers your last choice. It is not tied to your account.
- Birth place — saved to your account because it is required to calculate your chart.
- Home / current location — optional, and only saved if you choose to add it.
If you use the “Use my location” button, your device’s coordinates are used only to look up almanac information for that moment. They are not saved to our database and are never sent to analytics.
Analytics
We use privacy-conscious website analytics to understand which pages are visited and which buttons are used, so we can improve the product. This is limited to anonymous, aggregated signals such as page paths and button names.
Your personal birth and chart information is never sent to analytics. We do not send your name, email, date/time/place of birth, precise coordinates, chart data or Jyotish interpretations to any analytics service.
AI-assisted language generation
Your chart and readings are calculated deterministically — the astronomy and the classical Jyotish logic are not decided by AI. To turn those already-calculated, source-backed findings into readable language, we use an AI language model as a constrained writer, with validation and a deterministic fallback.
When we do this, only the evidence-bound findings and your first name are sent to the language model. We do not send your email, your date, time or place of birth, or your precise coordinates.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account, birth details and generated readings for as long as your account exists, so your personal readings remain available and consistent to you.
You can update your profile and birth details from your account settings. To request deletion of your account or a copy of your personal data, please use the support route we provide — see “Your choices and requests” below.
Security
We take reasonable, practical steps to protect your information: passwords are stored only as one-way hashes, sign-in uses secure http-only cookies with cross-site request protection, and access to your birth data is restricted to your own account. No online service can promise perfect security, and we do not claim to be certified or “encrypted everywhere”; we describe only measures we actually apply.
Your choices and requests
Today you can, from within your account:
- Edit your profile and preferences.
- Edit your birth details (a limited number of times, since this recalculates your chart).
To request deletion of your account, or a copy of the personal data associated with it, please contact support. We are finalising our support contact and will publish it here; until then, these requests can be made once that contact is available.
Updates to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, ask you to re-acknowledge it. Continued use of JyotishSakshi after an update means the current version applies.
